Wish you had a bit of motivation and were able to spring forward into the week every Monday? According to Time Magazine, there are 15 things successful people routinely do on Monday mornings. Today on the blog, I’m going to share with you 3 ways to set yourself up for success for the week that the most successful people do every Monday.

They take on the hardest things first

No procrastinating for them. They take on the hardest tasks first and get on with their day. The book Eat that Frog! dives into the importance of doing the hardest, most important tasks first to lead to more success in what we want in life. Struggle with procrastination? Mel Robbins in her book The Five Second Rule talks about how it’s more important to know WHY we proscrastinate than learn all the strategies to beat it. We procrastinate, based on her research, because we are avoiding STRESS. So exploring why we procrastinate will point to the real reasons for avoidance! Good to know right?

Update your to do list and weekly goals

If something is written down, then it’s way more likely to happen. In fact, studies show that:

Vividly describing your goals in written form is strongly associated with goal success, and people who very vividly describe or picture their goals are anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to successfully accomplish their goals than people who don’t.. So, even if it’s a short list, doing a to do list and updating your goals will set you up for success.

And I’m not sure exactly where the link to the study is, but a business trainer of mine was citing a study that showed that in a workplace setting, 100% of the time workers who showed slower results in sales did not write down their goals, but those who showed growth did.

Eat a good breakfast

Simple, right? It would be hard to get moving and feel that energy if we literally don’t have any energy in our bodies to give. Eat something balanced and healthy - oatmeal, fruit, yogurt. And get going for your day!

Most of us have a tendency to stick the toughest challenges near the end, but our energy is usually strongest earlier in the day and week. Is this something you do too? I’m back and forth on this. Sometimes I like to avoid by doing something else I like first. ….There’s just something about the start of the week that gets me every time. A fresh start. Hopefulness. The unknown adventures to unfold. So here’s to today and this week. Let’s go!⁣⁣

If you’d like to dive more into goal setting, not just for Mondays, I came across a fantastic way to work through a systematic, but simple way to do this that I read in The Bullet Journal book that has stuck with me. I’d be happy to share with you my notes on how to apply that step by step method. Just send me an email at simplehomemom@gmail.com and I can send along the steps from my notes I took when reading the book.

Hi, I’m Kelly! I’m a mother of four children - three boys, one toddler girl - and our family lives on the beautiful east coast of Canada. I’m a past elementary teacher, turned stay at home, work at home mom eight years ago after I had my second child. I’ve found that the busier I’ve become and as my children age, that it’s become even more important to figure out what is most important to me and us as a family. Living a simpler lifestyle has helped us in so many ways in our home life - from better routines to faster tidying up times. It has been through my children that I have been inspired to learn how to effectively manage my time and to simplify in all areas of my home and life. I enjoy helping busy moms simplify home life by teaching flexible planning methods and skills. Enjoyed this blog and think it would be helpful to others? I'd love if you shared it. Thank you!
